FAQs
What is personal coaching?
Coaching is consistent, active, collaborative work on the areas of your life that need the most attention, and the regular process of observing, discussing and developing your best practices for optimal engagement in those areas. Do you need to develop your spiritual fitness? Do you need strategies and coping skills to navigate a personal crisis? Your relationships with others? Your relationship with yourself? Your career? Your friendships? Partnerships? Health? These are common areas people like to target in coaching. It’s a layer of active strategizing, support and processing that can make all the difference.
What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
There are several key difference between therapy and coaching, as they are indeed separate services. Many of the core differences revolve around the ways in which behavioral, actionable steps and coping strategies are implemented and developed — or even focused on. In therapy for example, these can be discussed, analyzed and unpacked in very meaningful and helpful ways. Often in therapy, you will dive into the origins of your feelings and experiences by understanding and unpacking your past (your childhood). Therapy is a powerful, mainly cognitive form of meaning-making, framing and understanding. Most distinctively, therapy is client-driven. Contrastingly, in personal coaching (life coaching) a stronger emphasis is made on change-behaviors, strategies, positive actions and healthy accountability (without shame or guilt!) as they relate to your present day circumstances. Coaching in that sense, is more focused on cultivating specific change-behaviors, approaches, and best practices as a means of making personal or professional strides. There is great power in healthy accountability and guidance. Coaching is a different, more active form of self-development in that sense, often involving direct-feedback. Additionally, coaching is driven by the coach (in collaboration with the client).
What is the structure/frequency of coaching sessions?
To begin with, there will be a period of discovery where I will learn about the you and the areas you’d most like to focus your development in. Together, we will strategize your bespoke approach to expand your capacity and development in these areas. Sessions are generally 60 minutes, but can occasionally be double booked if needed, for intensive work. Sessions are conducted virtually or via phone call (client’s preference).
How do you measure results?
With all my clients, I like to discuss expectations and desired outcomes at the outset of the work, getting very detailed about what desired outcomes look like for each individual (i.e how do you want your life to look and feel as a result of our work together? What specific changes do you want to see in your life?). The process is collaborative and the way we assess results will also be collaborative and curated regularly together.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance at this time. However, sliding scale pricing may be available for extenuating circumstances. Mental health & wellness professionals and college students automatically qualify for sliding scale rates.
